He was born in Newburyport, MA, February 9, 1919, and was the son of Pierre, and Ella Jane (Levy) Benoit.
After high school, Wilfred entered the United States Air Force, and served as a bombardier with the 92nd air group, stationed in England, during WWII. He flew 32 missions, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following his discharge he worked in Washington DC, for the Federal Government, General Services Administration, and motor pool. He retired after 33 years of service in 1980.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing hiking, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He treasured family time with his children, grandchildren and great grand children.
He was a member of Post 79, of the American Legion, and a life member of Council 92 of the Knights of Columbus. He had been a member of St. Patrick Parish in Manchester.
Family members include his wife of nearly 63 years, Rachel (Laurendeau) Benoit, of Manchester; 3 daughters, Denise Blackburn, of FL, Camille Baker, Michelle Reynolds, both of Manchester; 3 sons, Donald Benoit, of Manchester, Sonny Benoit Jr., of FL, Michael Benoit, of NY; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jeannette Perron, of Peterborough, Marie Urban, of CA, Therese Benoit, of Merrimack; 2 brothers, Louis Benoit, of FL, Donald Benoit, of OH; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, July 24, 2008 at St. Pius X church, Candia Rd. Manchester.
Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Goffstown Rd. Manchester.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St. Manchester 03103.
