William M. Cullity

March 28, 1953 — January 19, 2025

Manchester

William M. “Bill” Cullity, 71, died Jan. 19, 2025, at his Manchester home after a sudden illness.

He was born in Manchester on March 28, 1953, the son of John E. “Jack” Cullity Sr. and Mary (Linehan) Cullity, and was a lifelong Queen City resident. He was the namesake of his uncle, William Michael Cullity Jr., an airman who was killed over England in World War II. He was a member of the first graduating class at Trinity High School in 1971 and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he was a proud member of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity and played on the baseball team.

Prior to retirement, Bill had worked in sales and consulting for many years, most recently with Spacepole Inc. and Parkside Spruce Consulting. Since retiring, he had enjoyed working for the New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlet Store 33 in Manchester.

Bill was a lifelong athlete and avid fan of New England sports. He played baseball and football at Bishop Bradley and Trinity, pitching on the diamond and quarterbacking on the gridiron. He also pitched alongside future major leaguer Mike Flanagan for the Sweeney Post team that advanced to the 1970 American Legion World Series in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Bill was an avid golfer and a proud member of Derryfield Country Club for more than 35 years. He loved nothing more than the camaraderie of a weekend round with his buddies, followed by stories and drinks on the deck at “the Moon.”

Bill was devoted to his family. He married Roberta (Clark) Cullity in 1975 and together they raised two daughters, Courtney and Tracy. Bill was a Hall of Fame “girl dad” who coached both of his daughters in sports and even mastered the art of the perfect hair curl for cheering competitions. He and Roberta spearheaded annual family camping trips to Zealand in the White Mountains, which are among their fondest memories.

Bill was also committed to his community, serving on the board and as a trustee of the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester with his longtime friend Mark Burns. He was a member of the Manchester Rotary Club and was involved with United Way for several years.

Starting in 2011, Bill and his good friend Tom Thirsk led a campaign to improve the golf course irrigation and drainage at Derryfield Country Club. His efforts helped ensure the city’s investment in new irrigation and drainage infrastructure in 2015, substantially improving course conditions and the experience of Derryfield’s golfers.  A bridge on the 14th hole has been labeled "Cull's Crossing" in recognition of his work.

Bill was known for his colorful personality, sense of humor, positive outlook and for living the “High Life.” He was the life of every party, the calm in each storm and a trusted voice of reason.

Family members include his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Roberta (Clark) Cullity of Manchester; his daughters, Courtney McDonald and husband Matthew of Hooksett, and Tracy Bell and husband Keith of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughters Lucy and Isla McDonald of Hooksett, and another granddaughter expected in April; his siblings, Brian Cullity and wife Lynn; Cathleen Manning and husband Chuck; Barbara Guinan and husband Mike; and Maureen Cullity; sister-in-law, Cathy Cullity; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and his dog, Suds. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, John E. “Jack” Cullity Jr. and sister-in-law, Elaine Cullity.

Calling hours will be held at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St. in Manchester, on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 3-6 p.m. A celebration of Bill’s life will be announced at a future time.
