William H. Dow, 77, of Auburn NH, passed away on November 15, 2023, after a period of declining health.
Bill was born October 12,1946 to George and Mary (Lukaicewicz) Dow in Cambridge MA. He was educated in Cambridge, earned his BA in Chemistry from Suffolk University and his MA in Business from Babson College. He then worked as chemist at The Polaroid company in the 1970’s and Boston Edison for the remaining 22 years before retiring in 1997. He taught chemistry in the Cambridge school system and finally at Suffolk University.
Bill had a passion for music, cinema, fine wines and liquors. He was a collector of comic books, magazines and Kangol hats. His best friend was his cat Rudy. He and his wife adored cats and would always adopt from the shelter Rudy came from. Bill met the love of his life, Patricia A. (Baker) Dow in Cambridge. They married September 6,1969. Early on they visited Europe and went on various trips together. Pat passed away in 2013 and he missed her every day of his remaining years. Bill was a gregarious man who loved to joke and laugh with anyone he met, especially his nurses and doctors. He would have strangers in elevators smiling or laughing when they got to their floor. He had a dry sense of humor and a very quick wit. His humor often came from a word or phrase someone would make in conversation .He was a generous, gentle, and sweet soul who would feel sad whenever he saw an animal on the side of the road. He had a big heart and would offer any help he could if someone were in need. Above all else, he will be remembered as a wonderful brother, uncle and friend.
Bill is survived by his older brother George Dow III and his sons, George Dow IV and Gregory Dow; three sons of predeceased brother Leonard, Leonard Jr., James and David; his predeceased sister Anne's son, Adam; several nieces, Elise Boudreau, Siobhan Dow, Leslie Audy, Karen Hanson, Kelly Day, Mary Hupfer and Sandi Peters Leondie; and his great nieces and nephews.
