William L. Thompson, Sr., 70, of Goffstown died February 14, 2016 at Elliot Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester on May 3, 1945, he was the son of Kenneth and Gladys (Pearson). William was a graduate of Manchester High School West and attended New Hampshire College for business. He served five years in the US Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict, before his honorable discharge in 1971. He worked as a truck driver for Georgia Pacific for many years. Prior to retirement in 2013, he worked as a maintenance technician for the US Post Office for 35 years.
William enjoyed camping with his family, going to yard sales, and to car shows. He was a huge fan of the Patriots and Red Sox and was a very proud veteran. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Family members include his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia (Chickering) Thompson of Goffstown; two daughters, Candy McLaughlin of Henniker, and Cathie Bourgeois and husband Brian of Goffstown; one son, William Thompson, Jr. and fiancée Carey McGowan of Hillsborough; eight grandchildren, Megan, Jessie, Krista, Dalton, Matthew, Kayla, Michaela, and Kameron; five great grandchildren, one sister, Barbara Bourque of Manchester; one brother, Ronald Thompson of Bedford, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Kenneth Thompson, Jr.
A memorial service took place on Friday, February 19, 2016 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, corner of North St. Burial will take place at a later date.
