William J. Manning

William J. Manning, 86, of Manchester, died October 1, 2009,at the Courville at Manchester.

He was born in Manchester, May 1, 1923, and was the son of Thomas and Susan (Flanagan) Manning.

William received his early education at the former McDonald School, and was a member of the graduating class of 1941, from Manchester High School Central. While at Central he excelled at baseball and served as the captain of the team. He was also played Legion ball for Sweeney Post. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Cape Gloucester. Later he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal service..

He enjoyed all sports, and gardening in his vegetable garden. He loved spending summers at the seashore and holidays at home with his family. His family and his home were the center of his life.

IN HIS LIFE: Family members include his sister Dorothy Gagnon, of Manchester; nieces, Kathleen and her husband Tim Sullivan, of Concord, Susan and her husband Tom Myers, of Manchester; nephews, Tom and his wife, Nancy Manning, of Manchester, Francis and his wife Joan Manning, of Manchester; a dear cousin, Edward Flanagan, of Manchester; and close friend, Connie Fitzwater, of Manchester.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Anne-St. Augustin, Beech St. Manchester on Monday, October 5, 2009.

Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Donald St. Manchester.
