William J. McDonald

William J. McDonald, 84, of Manchester died May 30, 2011 at the NH Veterans' Home in Tilton after a period of declining health.

He was born in Manchester on January 29, 1927, the son of Clarence and Mary E. (Coughlin) McDonald. He was educated in the local school system.

During WWII he served in the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.

Prior to retirement, he had been owner and operator of McDonald Consulting, a local logistic and transportation consulting agency.

Bill loved reading, especially WWII and Civil War stories. He also excelled at writing, having written short-stories for Alfred Hitchcock. He was past president of Delta Nu Alpha and had been a communicant of St. Anthony Parish for many years.

Above all else, Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved sharing his time with family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the NH Veterans' Home for the wonderful care provided Bill during his stay there. They provided a warm and comforting environment for Bill that was as close to heaven on earth imaginable.

Family members include his wife of 52 years, Doris (Cote) McDonald of Hooksett; three sons, Marc McDonald and his wife Margaret of Manchester, Kevin McDonald of Manchester, Brian McDonald and wife Lisa of Weare; six grandchildren, Kelly, Connor, Matthew, Taylor, Jennifer, and Patrick. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eileen and Evelyn.

The funeral service was held Friday, June 3, 2011 in St. Paul United Methodist Church, Smyth Road, Manchester.

Committal prayers and burial with military honors followed in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
