Born in Manchester on July 25, 1923, he was the son of William B. and Honora (Chapman) Moore. He was a longtime resident of Manchester.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph Boys High School and the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Finance (now Southern New Hampshire University), where he received classroom instruction from the schools founder, Harry Shapiro. He also graduated from the American Institute of Banking and attended the NH-VT School of Banking,
During World War II he served in the US Marine Corps.
Mr. Moore worked at Merchants National Bank 41 years and retired in 1987 as Vice President of Commercial Lending. At a retirement celebration he was awarded a key to the City of Manchester by the late Mayor Robert Shaw.
IN HIS LIFE: While retired, he served six years as a volunteer director and treasurer of Cathedral Credit Union. He also served as a former president of the American Institute of Banking, Manchester Chapter. He was a member and former director of the Robert Morris Association, New England Chapter, which is a national association of commercial banking lenders.
Mr. Moore served several years a director and two years as president of NH Business Development Corporation. He also served as treasurer, then 20 years as chairman of the Hillsborough County Chapter of the National Foundation March of Dimes. He was treasurer of the Manchester Heart Fund and served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the NH Heart Association for two years.
He was active with North Little League and served as treasurer of the league for 10 years. He was involved in various fund raising campaigns, including Catholic Charities. He also acted as division chairman for the former Manchester Community Chest (now United Way).
Mr. Moore was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Sweeney Post, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the League of 1000 Men of the Precious Blood. He also had volunteered his time at St. Catherine Church for many years.
He was married to Yvonne Theresa (Bibeault) Moore who died in 2001.
The family includes two daughters, Christine Hanagan and Carol Johnson both of Manchester; two sons, Michael J. Moore and his wife, Suzanne of Manchester, and David J. Moore and his wife Debbie of Hooksett; nine grandchildren, Shawn Hanagan, Michael Moore, Amy Moore, Kyle Johnson, Bridget Hanagan, Kristen Johnson, Justin Moore, Nathan Moore and Brianne Moore; one great grandchild and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Moore of Manchester, and by a great grandchild, Alex Ogden.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, August 22, 2008 at St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock streets, Manchester. Committal prayers followed in Shaw Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
