William A. Thomas, 98, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at his home after a period of declining health.

  He was born in Bailey, MS, on January 21, 1926, to William W. and Mary E. (Bailey) Thomas. He grew up in Mississippi and later lived in Manchester, NH, for many decades.

 William was a graduate of Jackson College, in Jackson, MS. He began his professional career as an educator, teaching Algebra to Middle School aged children. Shortly thereafter, he was called on by Uncle Sam to join the United States Army. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and retired at the rank of

Staff Sergeant. Upon retiring from the Army he decided to pursue employment at Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company in Merrimack, New Hampshire. He retired for a second time after completing a career of 20 years at Anheuser-Busch. 

 Mr. Thomas can be described as a spiritual, reserved, sincere, quiet and committed family man; who believed in treating people fairly. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Manchester, where he sang in the church choir for many years. One of his favorite songs to sing when he wasn’t singing in the choir was God Bless America.

 He was an avid reader of various business and finance magazines and journals, additionally he enjoyed renewing his annual subscriptions to the Manchester Union Leader and Army Times. William also enjoyed playing the Lottery. 

 He was preceded in death by the following people: His dear devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Lois G. (Williams) Thomas, in 1997, and four siblings, Otis Thomas, Harold Thomas, Evie D.Collier and Mrs. Earlee (Thomas) Paten. 

 William is survived by five children, Marian I. Thomas and William H. Thomas, both of California, Gloria A. Prosper and her husband, Martial, of Manchester, Robert A. Thomas and his wife, Angel, of Virginia and Stanley D. Thomas of Manchester; five grandchildren, Jabari Lewis, Eboni Lewis, Isiah Prosper, Tarik Lewis and Terrence Thomas; and a whole host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

 Rest in peace, dear William A. Thomas. Your memory and legacy will continue on through your family and friends.

  SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday (8/30) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed immediately at 12:30 p.m. by a funeral ceremony, all at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, NH. Burial will follow in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH.
