He was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School for Boys, and attended the University of NH. Later he graduated from St. Anselm College,and was a member of the Golden Anselmians. Mr. Welch was active in a variety of sports in his high school and college years. He was named to the All State high school football team. Following school William served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. For many years he served as an area manager for Armour and Company as well as the Dial Corporation Division.
William loved baseball and played on several teams while in the Navy as well as in the Sunset League of the Naval reserve. He served as a coach in the North Little League and several of the baseball and basketball teams for St. Catherine Parish.
He was a life member of the Disabled American veterans and a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Manchester for 34 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, and the Alhambra.
IN HIS LIFE: Family members include two, daughters; Mrs.Leonard (Nancy) Murphy, of Hampton, Mrs. Leonard (Maureen) Hoops, of TX; a son William T. Welch III, and his wife Holly of No. Reading, MA, 2 granddaughters; Courtney Welch, Erika Hoops; a sister Marceline Bodwell, of FL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday April 12, 2008 at St. Catherine Church, Webster St. Manchester.
Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Donald St. Bedford.
In lieu of flowers memorial donation can be made to the Monastery of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St. Manchester, 03103, of Liberty House, 75 Baker St., Manchester, NH 03103.
