He was born in Hollis on September 10, 1922 to Peter and Rose (Vinskas) Surwell. He grew up on a family farm in Hollis. The farm would later produce food provided for the Berlin Air Lift in 1949.
He was a carpenter by trade and after retiring worked as a cab driver for twenty years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working around the house, vintage cars and playing bingo. He also liked the outdoors including tree cutting, logging and working in his garden.
The family includes three sons, David Surwell and wife Sue of Nashua, Dale Surwell and wife Ann of Hollis and Darrell Surwell, with whom he made his home, of Hopkinton; and a niece, Rosalie Zarpas of Hollis.
He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline R.(Glines) Surwell in 2001, a brother, Joseph Surwell in February and two sisters, Mary Surwell and Rosa Surwell.
Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua at the convenience of the family.
Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester assisted the family with arrangements.
