A loving Prayer and Obituary for our Dear mother, Yvette Doris Plantier
Manchester, NH – Yvette Doris Plantier (Roux).

Born May 30, 1927 in Haverhill, MA, and a NH resident for most of her life, the oldest daughter of Henri and Yvonne Roux, passed quickly and quietly into the arms of God on the evening of Monday, March 8th, no doubt joining the hosts of angels who have been anxiously awaiting her return.

"92" years young, our Mother was born on May 30, 1927 into a large French family and raised in a three story apartment block of a working class neighborhood of Woonsocket RI with her 9 siblings. She was a good girl who worked hard and dreamed large, and after high school became a supervisor in the Narragansett Knitting Factory, where her proud father had worked for years as a loom repairman.

Her early elementary and high school years were formative, and her dance card was alway full, but after worrying her parents with her independence and social acumen, she finally drove her new Pontiac to a wedding she was not originally invited to. It was there she met a poor but handsome med student and before the night was over, she knew her prayers had been answered, and her dreams were coming true.

In the almost 63 years since that fateful day, our mother and father have never been apart. Through struggles and victories over the last half century, they lived by not just the words, but by the spirit of their Roman Catholic background, and have epitomized the American dream through hard work, unshakeable faith, and love of each other, and their country.

She was, and still is, an extraordinarily religious woman, who spent her whole life practicing her faith in real time, in ways that defined her.

She was a Daily Communicant of the Precious Blood and a faithful servant of Saint Anthony's Church in Manchester for over 50 years. She served thousands of families; tens of thousands of meals, for other people from bereavements to fundraisers; penny sales to prayer vigils; dozens of trips with hundreds of parishioners to the lands of our history, both in the new world, and the old; my mother was our direct connection to something, and someone, greater than ourselves. And in the light of her faith, she blessed everyone she met.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Dr. Henry Plantier, and a grateful family of 4 children, 8 grandchildren, two siblings, and countless friends and acquaintances, whose lives have been touched by her during her lifetime, all of them, better men and women for having done so.

Among them her children are David and Primrose Plantier of New Boston, NH; Karen and Richard Demers of North Wales PA, Janet and Eric Sanborn of Canterbury, NH, and Robert and Jan Plantier of Manchester. Her grandchildren Lindsay Plantier, Mathew Plantier, Ben and his wife Andrea Demers, James Demers, Christopher Sanborn, Michael Sanborn, Shane Plantier, and Mitchell Plantier.

Finally, her surviving siblings Jeanine and Don; as well as Helen, Fern, Ray, Gene, and Roland, her late brothers and sisters, who will be waiting for her in her new home.

Our mother was many things to many people but to all, the best of who we are as a people. A proud, conservative, modern housewife; who defied stereotypes while maintaining a grace that few every reach. A humble yet determined small time girl, who travelled the world with the man she loved, yet never lost her bearings; always remembered where she came from, and where she was going.

At the summer house where we our souls resided, and our Manchester home where our futures were formed, she was mother to every child in every neighborhood; wherever she was, that was where we all gathered; that was home. To this day, those children, and the children of those children, still visit, honoring their second parents who took them in, taught them so many life lessons, and helped them build the fondest memories of their lives.

The memories she formed and the laughter that surrounded every conversation, will be with us always, and within all who knew her. In a world that has forgotten how to laugh, it is her memory that will always remind us that we are still Gods children, and all of us, are loved.

Services: A visitation with masks and social distancing will take place from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Friday, March 12th at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester, NH 03103. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following, at 10:00 am, in St. Anthony of Padua Church.
